MAKHACHKALA, August 28 (RIA Novosti) - Three militants were killed in a police operation in Russia's North Caucasus republic of Dagestan early on Friday, a spokesman for the republic's Federal Security Service (FSB) said.
"Three militants were killed in a special police operation on Laptiyeva Street [in Makhachkala]. Their identities are being established," the official said.
The militant group was surrounded in a private house, but refused to surrender.
Security restrictions were temporarily imposed in Dagestan's capital for the duration of the counter-terrorism operation. It was limited to the area where the militants were located.
In a separate incident in the neighboring republic of Chechnya, two suicide bombers set off bombs on Friday morning when police attempted to apprehend them. Both militants died, injuring at least three police officers and three civilians.
Russia's North Caucasus regions have seen a rise in violence in recent months. Attacks on police, officials and troops, and special operations against militants have been reported almost daily in Chechnya, Ingushetia and Dagestan.
