The Day of Historical and Cultural Heritage of Moscow will take place on May 18. On this day, entrance to a number of museums and galleries will be free, and cultural and historical sites that are usually closed to the public will be open. People can visit one of the first electric power plants in Moscow, the Sklifosovsky First Aid Research Institute and the famous Hotel National.

After it was closed in 1937, the church was looted and its organ was destroyed. In December 1999, the restored church was consecrated and designated as a cathedral. In 2002, it received a new organ from the Cathedral of Basel (Basel Münster).

The Martha and Mary Convent of Mercy on Bolshaya Ordynka Street was founded by Grand Duchess Elizabeth Feodorovna of Russia in 1909. The convent’s Cathedral of the Protection of the Mother of God was designed by the architect Alexei Shchusev. The convent is currently home to an orphanage for girls, a soup kitchen and a social services office.
