The Syrian Army has surrounded some 1,000 militants of the armed opposition and terrorist Islamist groups, which continue to resist in the Daraya suburb in southwestern Damascus.

A source in the Syrian high command said the situation was improving daily, the army now controls two-thirds of the city and the terrorists had been completely surrounded.

This time, the military left no way for the terrorists to escape. The terrorists now face a choice: surrender to the authorities or be killed.

About 1,000 militants remain surrounded in Daraya, the source said.

“We estimate that there are about 1,000 to 1,500 militants. They use up-to-date and most diverse weapons and communications systems, including US-made and Israeli-made systems. While searching dead bodies, we find documents proving that they came from Turkey, Libya and Afghanistan,” the source said.

Daraya, a key suburb of the Syrian capital, is located near the Mazzeh air base in the west and next to the Kafar Sousseh district of Damascus, home to the Interior Ministry and the Foreign Ministry.

The Presidential Palace is located less than ten kilometers (6 miles) from Daraya.

The Syrian Army launched a military operation involving armored units and aircraft in Daraya two months ago. The operation continues.

Civilians were forced to leave their homes in the war zone.
