MOSCOW, July 4 (RIA Novosti) - Investigators named on Thursday possible reasons for the recent crash of a Mil Mi-8 Hip helicopter in Siberia.
The helicopter with 28 people, including 11 children, on board, crash-landed in east Siberia on Tuesday. Twenty-four people died. Three crew and one passenger survived the crash.
“The investigation believes the key possible reasons for the accident could have been unfavorable weather conditions, a technical malfunction or a pilot error,” the East Siberian transportation investigation department of the Russian Investigative Committee said Thursday.
The pilot of the Mi-8 chopper, which came down on Tuesday morning, managed to contact rescuers overnight by satellite phone, allowing his position to be pinpointed.
