Moscow and Sport Events in RIA Novosti’s Archive Photos

A photo exhibition, Moscow and Sport Events, has opened in Moscow. It is dedicated to the history and evolution of sport in the Russian capital.

The exhibition is sponsored by the Moscow Museum with support from RIA Novosti.

The exhibition features over 60 photos from RIA Novosti’s archives and a set of modern-day sports shots.

Visitors to the exhibition can find out why skating rinks became popular in Moscow in the late 19th century, and learn that the 1920’s and 1930’s were the era of athletes’ parades, that football enjoyed immense popularity in the 1940’s, and that hockey became very popular in the 1970’s.

The exhibition also displays material on the greatest sporting event in Moscow’s history, the 1980 Olympics, as well as on the tennis boom of the 1990’s and on the popularity of park sports and bicycle paths today.
