A Riga administrative court was unable to come to a decision in the case of Rossiya Segodnya International Information Agency’s registration in Latvia, ordering the proceedings be adjourned for further consideration of the merits of the appeal and asking the sides to provide additional materials, the agency’s press service said Tuesday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — According to court documents, the registration of Rossiya Segodnya in Latvia may violate an EU Council Regulation on the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine. In this regard, the court considers it necessary to redirect questions concerning the interpretation of the regulation to the European Court of Justice, the press service added, citing the documents.

«We are studying the decision of the Latvian court and analyzing the received documents. We will consider all legal possibilities to protect our interests and business reputation», the head of MIA Rossiya Segodnya’s legal department, Evgeny Korolev, said.

Latvia refused to register the agency's bureau in late August 2015, as the documents submitted as part of the registration process allegedly did not comply with the country's law. The Russian Foreign Ministry dismissed the claim as discriminatory and politicized.

Rossiya Segodnya agency is an international media group whose mission is to cover world events in a prompt, balanced, and unbiased manner. Rossiya Segodnya offers alternative views on key events in Russia and elsewhere. The agency includes RIA Novosti, Sputnik, R-Sport, and a number of other news providers.
