UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura could meet with Syrian opposition’s High Negotiations Committee (HNC) during his official visit to Saudi Arabia, according to an HNC source.

HNC Opposition Says Syrians Should Decide on Federalization Issue
MOSCOW (Sputnik) — A meeting between UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura and Syrian opposition’s High Negotiations Committee (HNC) may take place during the envoy’s visit to Saudi Arabia, an HNC source told Sputnik on Wednesday.

On Tuesday, de Mistura said he was planning visits to Tehran, Ankara, Damascus and Riyadh in preparation for the next round of intra-Syrian talks.

“Mistura is sure to visit Saudi Arabia. Seeing HNC is possible,” the source said.

HNC Opposition Says Transitional Gov’t Should Wield Full Power in Syria
The HNC, which was formed in Saudi Arabia in December, is one of the three opposition delegations participating in the intra-Syria settlement talks with official Damascus in Geneva.

The latest round of talks opened on March 14 and lasted for 10 days. The round saw all delegations submit their settlement proposals to de Mistura, who then produced a final paper with points of convergence between the parties. It was submitted for the delegations' approval ahead of the new round of talks that could start as early as April 9.
