The symbolic final resting place was prepared inside the college campus and showered with petals, as well as provided with a makeshift headstone and a wreath on March 31, the day the principal, Dr. T.N. Sarasu, retired.

Following a complaint by the principal, police registered cases under various sections of the Indian Penal Code against eight students: Section 143 (unlawful assembly), Section 147 (rioting) and Section 500 (defaming a person in authority).
"I had been their Principal and had not given in to their unjust demands, which could have angered them," Sarasu told PTI. She alleges that she was victimized for enforcing discipline on campus.
"I have done my work truthfully. A lot of good work was done during my period," she said, adding, she had been a zoology professor for 27 years before taking over as principal this academic year.
"I have poured my soul into working for this college. Is this all I get back?" she added.
The 127-year-old Government Victoria College is one of the oldest and most prestigious institutions of higher learning in all of southern India. It provides undergraduate and postgraduate education in Science, Arts and Commerce subjects.
