LONDON (Sputnik) — The EU membership referendum campaign officially begins in the United Kingdom on Friday, two months before the Brits go to the polling stations to decide whether the country stays in or leaves the bloc, local media reported.
According to the BBC broadcaster, Britain Stronger in Europe and Vote Leave are expected to deliver their speeches and hold rallies in the run-up to the referendum.
The two opposing camps are entitled to spend up to 7 million pounds ($10 million) of public funds and air time to get their message across to the Brits.
UK nationals are set to vote on June 23 in a referendum on the country's EU membership, after Prime Minister David Cameron and the leaders of the 27 EU member states reached a deal in February to grant the United Kingdom a special status within the bloc.
