Shoigu: World Not Becoming More Stable, Time for Global Community to Unite
MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Russia and South Africa are gearing up to implement joint projects improving the combat readiness of the two countries’ armed forces, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said Wednesday.

"We are satisfied with the positive dynamics of the development of cooperation and the joint mindset to implement projects aiming to improve the combat readiness of our countries’ armed forces," Shoigu said at a meeting with his South African counterpart Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula.

The Russian defense chief noted the growing contacts between the countries’ militaries, including on a level of commander-in-chiefs.

"We look forward to fruitful collaboration this year in the course of a Russian-South African workshop among defense industry representatives, as well as during the international ‘Army-2016’ military-technical forum," Shoigu underscored.

Additionally, Shoigu said the Russian Defense Ministry is set to implement agreements reached at the eighth joint Russian-South African intergovernmental military-technical cooperation commission in October 2015.

Mapisa-Nqakula in turn voiced interest in pursuing military-technical cooperation with Russia, adding that Pretoria planned to hold annual military consultations with Moscow.
