The death toll from an explosion of coal gas in a mine in the central Chinese province of Hubei rose to seven, media reported on Wednesday, citing rescuers.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) – According to Xinhua news agency, two more bodies were found early morning, while four miners remained trapped in the Xinjia Coal Mine in Badong County.

The incident happened on Monday evening. During the blast there were 16 workers at the coalface, five of them managed to escape, while the rest were trapped in the mine.

This is the recent incident in a string of mine-related incidents after four mine explosions killed dozens across the country in less than three months.

Gas detonated in late September at a mine in northwest China's Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region killing at least 18 people. Another blast in the central Chinese region of Chongqing in early November claimed 33 lives, while two explosions near the cities of Chifeng and Qitaihe left at least 38 dead last week.
