The global death toll from COVID-19 has now surpassed 4.42 million and over 211.3 million cases of the virus have been registered so far, according to Johns Hopkins University, which tracks and compiles data from state and local authorities, the media, and other sources.
The US is still the most-affected nation amid the pandemic, with over 37.6 million confirmed cases and a death toll in excess of 628,000. Next is India. The South Asian nation has to date registered more than 32.3 million cases and 433,964 deaths. The top three is rounded out by Brazil, where 20.5 million confirmed cases and over 574,000 fatalities have so far been reported.
Meanwhile, more than 175,500 people participated in demonstrations against coronavirus health passes across France on 21 August. This was the sixth Saturday in a row that protests against the new COVID-19 restrictions were organised in various cities in France, including Paris.
