
She noted that the Russian authorities have already received multiple requests from Russian citizens in Kazakhstan to bring them back and heard many disturbing accounts of the events in the country from them.
The clashes are underway near the Raiymbek settlement, the eyewitnesses said.
The victims were taken to hospitals with various injuries. At the moment, all social facilities in the region are operating normally, the response center continues to work, roadblocks have been installed on the main roads of the city, and security of strategic facilities has been strengthened.
People have been protesting in Kazakhstan since a twofold increase in gas prices on January 1. Despite the government's attempts to manage the situation and promises to decrease prices, peaceful protests turned into clashes with law enforcement officers in several regions of the republic, including in the city of Almaty. The government introduced an internet blackout and declared a country-wide state of emergency.
Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev asked for the Collective Security Treaty Organization's (CSTO) assistance in resolving the issue. The first contingent of the CSTO Collective Peacekeeping Forces arrived to Kazakhstan on Thursday to help bring the situation under control.
"Ben Kodzhiashvili, a 22-year-old Israeli, was killed last night in a shootout in the Kazakh city of Alma-Ata during the riots in the country", the ministry said in a statement, adding that Israeli diplomats are in contact with his parents living in Kazakhstan and family members in Israel.
"Kassym-Jomart Tokayev told Vladimir Putin that the situation in the country was stabilizing. But he underscored that hotspots of terrorist attacks remained. The fight against terrorism will continue with urgenc", the Kazakh presidency said.
"11 organisers and instigators were detained", the ministry said in a statement.
"Military transport flights will airlift Russians home from the city... from 5 p.m. until 6 p.m. [local time] on 9 January 2022", a statement read.
"The president of Kazakhstan spoke in detail about the current situation in the country but noted that it was stabilising", the statement read.
"Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said that at this stage the situation required a conversation between CSTO leaders. He said he would initiate a CSTO Collective Security Council video conference in the next few days... Vladimir Putin supported this proposal", the Kremlin said.
"In connection with the numerous casualties as a result of tragic events in several regions of the country, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev decided to declare 10 January 2022, a day of national mourning", Uali said on Facebook.
"After the joint CSTO peacekeeping force took over protective functions in Nur-Sultan Kazakhstan had enough of law enforcers freed up to move them to Almaty where they took part in the counterterrorist operation", the presidency cited Tokayev as saying in a statement.
The Kazakh authorities declared a national state of emergency on Wednesday, shutting the Internet and disrupting mobile connectivity.
"A total of 4,266 people have been taken to police. In one of the villages of the Almaty Region, more than 100 people have been detained. According to preliminary data, they are citizens of a neighbouring country", the Interior Ministry said in a statement.
