On February 24, Russia started a special military operation to demilitarize and de-Nazify Ukraine following requests from the People's Republics of Donetsk and Lugansk for help amid intensifying attacks by Kiev's forces.
As Russian army and allied forces of the DPR and LPR are advancing on Ukrainian territory, Kiev's troops continue to shell the territory of Donbass as well as areas surrounding Europe's largest nuclear power plant - Zaporozhye - which is located on the left bank of the Dnieper River.
Since early March, the Zaporozhye NPP has been under control of the Russian armed forces. Moscow has repeatedly warned the international community that it has intelligence data that Kiev has been planning provocations near the NPP to later accuse Russia of "nuclear terrorism".
During his conversation with French President Emmanuel Macron earlier this week, Russian President Vladimir Putin stressed that the Ukrainian shelling of the largest nuclear power plant in Europe could lead to a catastrophe.

Russia's Gatilov: No 'Practical Platform' to Hold Putin-Zelensky Meeting
There is no practical platform to hold a direct meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, and as the conflict further continues, it will be more difficult to reach a diplomatic solution, Russian Permanent Representative in the UN Office in Geneva Gennady Gatilov said on Sunday.
There "was not any practical platform for having this meeting," Gatilov told the Financial Times newspaper.
The diplomat praised Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan for "trying his best" to facilitate the diplomatic settlement of the conflict in Ukraine, but said that "now, I do not see any possibility for diplomatic contacts. And the more the conflict goes on, the more difficult it will be to have a diplomatic solution," as quoted by the newspaper.

Germany's Scholz Says Berlin Supplies Kiev With Enough Weapons
BERLIN (Sputnik) - German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said on Sunday that Berlin has been regularly supplying Kiev with "very effective" weapons and vowed to continue the deliveries if there is no escalation.
"Germany has been supplying Ukraine with a large amount of weapons. It is important to mention, we are continuing the regular deliveries, it is a very effective armament," Scholz said during the open house day at his office in Berlin.
The top official also said that the upcoming arms deliveries will include the Cobra radar system and the IRIS-T (Infra Red Imaging System Tail/Thrust Vector-Controlled) air defense systems.
He added that Germany will assist Ukraine as long as it is necessary but "the main principle" is that there should be no escalation of the conflict.
Earlier this week, German media reported, citing Ukrainian official sources, that Ukrainian diplomats had asked Berlin several times since June to step up arms supplies but to no avail.
Berlin has signaled that it is running low on weapons and will help supplying Kiev with German-made hardware and munitions sourced from partner countries. Norway and Estonia supplied Ukraine with German weapons from their arsenals in July.
