LIVE UPDATES: European Commission and Ukraine Sign New €500 Million Budget Support Program

Recently, Ukrainian forces have been targeting the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant with artillery fire and have even attempted to dispatch troops several times to seize the facility.

Amid the crisis surrounding the ZNPP, head of the International Atomic Energy Agency Rafael Grossi inspected the plant and expressed concern regarding military clashes around it. He also received an appeal from the people of the nearby city of Energodar, who are calling on Kiev to stop the attacks against the nuclear plant.

Moscow launched a military operation in Ukraine on February 24 after the republics of Donetsk and Lugansk appealed for help in defending themselves against Kiev, which has been waging an 8-year-long war against the people of Donbass. In response to the op, Western countries have rolled out a sanctions campaign against Russia and have been supplying weapons to Ukraine, which resulted in skyrocketing of fuel prices and inflation worldwide.

International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Grossi will issue a report about the outcomes of the agency’s mission to the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant (ZNPP) on Tuesday, the IAEA said on Monday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) - Further use of the Trent 60 gas pumping unit at the Nord Stream pipeline’s Portovaya compressor station without addressing an oil leak creates risks of fire or explosion, the Russian gas giant Gazprom said on Monday.

On Friday, Gazprom said that it had received a warning from Russian technical watchdog Rostekhnadzor about the oil leak at the only remaining working engine for the pipeline, and it had been completely stopped until the issues were eliminated.

A new strike by Kiev's forces hit the special building of the Zaporozhye NPP, and a tank with distilled water in the immediate vicinity of the second power unit was also damaged, the administration of Energodar said.

"According to information from the military-civilian administration of the city of Energodar, artillery strikes were recorded in the following places: a special building of the nuclear power plant, a communication ceiling to the right of the special building, a concrete fence. It is noted that, according to experts, at the moment there is no threat to the technological process. Currently, emergency services are dealing with the consequences of the strike on the territory of the nuclear power plant.

MOSCOW, September 5 (Sputnik) - The European Union intends to review its defense strategy, the Strategic Compass, in order to include scenarios with large-scale troop movement and conventional war in the bloc’s borders, EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell said on Monday.

Three Ships Carrying Corn, Wheat to Leave Ukraine on Monday - JCC

Three ships with food products and grain have been authorized to leave from Ukrainian ports on Monday as part of the Black Sea grain initiative, the Istanbul-based Joint Coordination Center (JCC) said.

The three vessels (MY MERAY, GOLDEN YARA, and BARON) will carry a combined 49,250 tonnes (metric tons) of food products from Ukraine to Turkey and Egypt, the JCC said on Sunday.

MY MERAY will leave from the port of Chornomorsk and will head to Egypt with a cargo of 30,000 tonnes of corn. GOLDEN YARA will depart from Yuzhne and will carry 13,500 tonnes of wheat to Mersin, Turkey. BARON will sail out from Odessa with 5,750 tonnes of corn and will also head to Turkey.

As of September 4, over 2 million tonnes of food products have been transported out of Ukrainian ports via sea under the Istanbul grain deal.

On July 22, Russia, Ukraine, and Turkey signed an UN-brokered initiative to provide a humanitarian maritime corridor for ships with food and fertilizer exports from Black Sea ports. Three key Ukrainian ports — Odessa, Chornomorsk, and Yuzhne — were unblocked to resume exports. A joint coordination center was set up to monitor the implementation of the initiative, including ensuring that cargo ships do not carry unauthorized goods or personnel.

Russian Security Consultancy Launches Hunt for Estonian Ground Drone

A private Russian security consultancy has offered a bounty to anyone who captures a THeMIS, an Estonian-made unmanned ground vehicle that Ukraine received in August.

The Center for Analysis of Strategies and Technologies said it would pay a million rubles ($16,600) to anyone who captures a THeMIS platform "in a more or less preserved state" and hands it over to the Russian Defense Ministry.

The director of the Moscow-based center, which does defense research and analysis for profit, said the remote-controlled ground vehicle was "the only truly modern, innovative" piece of military equipment supplied to Ukraine.

"This platform is truly state-of-art. It is what we should take note of. It is a really innovative thing and the future of warfare," Ruslan Pukhov told Sputnik.

THeMIS maker Milrem Robotics bills it as a "multi-role unmanned ground vehicle (UGV) intended to reduce the number of troops on the battlefield." It can serve as a transport vehicle or be quickly reconfigured into a weapon.

Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal raised Leopard 2 battle tanks during a Sunday meeting with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and felt "optimistic" that he had been heard.

"We spoke about this topic. We even suggested the ways by which Germany could supply Ukraine with these tanks," Shmyhal was quoted as telling German press after the meeting in Berlin.

The Ukrainian said he could not divulge "all agreements and all details of the talks," according to ntv, "but we had an absolutely concrete discussion about tanks and other military systems."

Shmyhal told German media last month that he had also asked the United States to donate Abrams battle tanks.

Germany has supplied Ukraine with hundreds of millions worth of military equipment but their ties have been strained over Kiev’s growing impatience with Berlin as it refuses to donate heavy military hardware.
