Moldovan President Igor Dodon warned that the NATO Liaison Office in the country may be closed after the upcoming parliamentary election in the country, arguing that the alliance’s attempts to establish an active presence in Moldova are nothing more than trying "to move as close as possible to the borders of the Russian Federation."

President Dodon has insisted that Moldova is a neutral country, and that the majority of Moldovans want to avoid joining any military bloc and being dragged in geopolitical rivalries, while the opening of the NATO office is an attempt to "sway public opinion" on the issue.
