Demonstrators Take to Quebec Streets to Protest G7 Summit

The Canadian city of Quebec saw the first major protests against the coming G7 summit Thursday evening, when hundreds took to the streets in opposition to the meeting of economic powers.

The summit will begin Friday in the town of La Malbaie.

Canada assumed the presidency of the G7 — comprising the US, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, the UK and the EU — in January. This summit agenda focuses on economic growth, national security and gender equality.

Riot police have already begun making arrests.
