S Korea Selects Seoul as Host City for Joint Olympic Bid With N. Korea - Report

MOSCOW (Sputnik) - The Korean Sport and Olympic Committee (KSOC) picked Seoul as South Korea and North Korea are bidding to co-host the 2032 Summer Olympics, Yonhap reported on Monday.

Seoul was chosen over South Korea's second largest city Busan, located 450 kilometres (280 miles) southeast of the capital, according to the Yonhap news agency. North Korea is yet to announce its candidate city but Pyongyang is seen as a certain choice considering its infrastructure.

IOC Chief: Kim Jong-un Vows North Korea to Take Part in Tokyo, Beijing Olympics
At a summit in the North Korean capital in September 2018, South Korean and North Korean leaders, Moon Jae-in and Kim Jong-un, agreed to submit a bid to co-host the 2032 Olympics amid a warming of ties between the two countries.

South Korea and North Korea are scheduled to submit a letter of intent to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) on Friday.
