Putin Examines Kinzhal-Armed MiG-31 at Flight Test Centre in Astrakhan Region

AKHTUBINSK, RUSSIA (Sputnik) - Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday inspected a MiG-31 fighter, armed with cutting-edge Kinzhal hypersonic missiles, on display at a flight test centre in southwestern Russia.

The exhibition at the Chkalov Centre in the town of Akhtubinsk also featured a Su-57 fifth-generation stealthy multirole jet, a new MiG-35 fighter and an array of advanced drone prototypes.

The president inspected stands showcasing Russia’s mainstay Su-35 and Su-30SM fighters, revamped MiG-31BM interceptor and carrier-based MiG-29K fighter.

Putin was showed around by senior Defence Ministry officials who spoke to the president about the technical details of the various air defence weaponry on display.

These included the Podlyot and Kasta 2-2B radar systems; Valdai anti-drone weapon; S-350 Vityaz and S-300B4 surface-to-air missile systems; Pantsir missile complexes of S, SM and SA modifications; as well as Tor M2 and Buk M3 air defence systems.

The Russia's President Vladimir Putin arrived in the Russian town of Akhtubinsk earlier in the day for an inspection of new weapons systems and aircraft as part of a series of defence meetings in May.
