The demonstrations have been ongoing since 14 November, when lawmakers decided not to pass legislative amendments that would have changed the voting system to a proportional one. The rallies have grown violent, with law enforcement resorting to water cannons to disperse a crowd that blocked the entrance to the parliament building.
