Frightening Yet Captivating: Hot Lava Breaks Side of Icelandic Volcano Apart

There is a high concentration of active volcanoes in Iceland due to its location on the Mid-Atlantic Ridge, a divergent tectonic plate boundary.

A video was shared on YouTube earlier this month, showing an erupting volcano outside Iceland's capital Reykjavik.

It can be seen spewing lava before a stronger flow of the hot liquid breaks a side of the volcano apart to let the lava make its way down the valley Geldingadalur.

"Can’t believe how close people are standing. That eruption is huge," a viewer wrote. "Mother Nature in her full glory," another added.
