A huge sinkhole, which appeared in a farmer’s field in central Mexico, is now threatening to swallow a nearby household. The local governor, Miguel Barbosa Huerta, announced that the family living near the sinkhole has already been evacuated. The government has warned locals to stay away from the area.
Authorities believe the sinkhole appeared due to a combination of two factors: the softening of the field and the extraction of groundwater.
