A passenger bus has been destroyed in a blast in the Syrian capital, state TV reported on Wednesday. Two explosive devices detonated under the President Bridge, reports suggest, adding that there have been multiple casualties from the blast.
Later, the military confirmed the reports in an official statement.
"At around 6:45 [03:45 GMT], a terrorist attack was carried out during the passage of an army bus in Damascus near the Rais [presidential] bridge. Two explosive devices, previously planted in the vehicle, were detonated. As a result, 14 soldiers were killed and several others were injured. Mine pickers defused the third explosive device that was also planted in the bus", the military said.
Several pictures have since emerged online, purportedly depicting the obliterated vehicle.
