Naval Support Activity Bethesda has given an all clear after being put on lockdown for hours following an anonymous call, warning a bomb had been installed in Building 10, which is the Walter Reed National Military Medical Centre.
"At approximately 8:45 a.m., the installation received a phone call from an anonymous source stating there is a bomb at or near Building 10. Security personnel have responded to the scene", Naval Support Activity Bethesda said via Twitter. "The base is on lockdown. All personnel should shelter in place. All gates are closed to non-emergency traffic. The public is asked to avoid the area."
The base was also investigating an "active shooter threat". However, in a follow-up statement on Wednesday the base said that there was no indication of a gunman at the facility.
"A bomb threat is still under investigation. A lockdown remains in place", the NSA Bethesda tweeted.
So far, there has been no word of any injuries or casualties. The official "all clear" will be given by NSA Bethesda through social media and other official channels, the base added.
