France and Bayern Munich player Lucas Hernandez has been spared a jail term after a court in Madrid scrapped the previous verdict, which gave him a six-month term. The sentence has been suspended for four years as long the athlete does not commit a new offence during this period. Hernandez will also have to pay a 96,000-euro fine (over $111,000).
In February 2017, Lucas Hernandez was given 31 days of community services for violence, assault, and damage to property following a violent altercation with his girlfriend Amelia Ossa Llorente. The athlete was also handed a restraining order preventing him from being within 500 metres of Ms Llorente, who also received 31 days of community service.
It seems the couple have mended their relationship as that same year they tied the knot. This, however, did not stop Spanish law enforcement from arresting the defender when he returned to Spain with Ms Llorente following their honeymoon, with the player being accused of violating the restraining order. In December 2019, he was given a suspended jail sentence.
On 13 October, a Spanish court sentenced him to six months in prison, but the athlete successfully appealed the verdict.
Hernandez began his career in La Liga where he played for Atletico Madrid for four years. During this time he won the UEFA Europa League, UEFA Super Cup, and won silver medals in the Champions League. In 2019, he joined Bayern Munich with whom he's won 7 trophies, including the Bundesliga and Champions League.
Hernandez also plays for the French national team and was in the squad that won the 2018 World Cup and 2020/2021 UEFA Nations League.
