New York Attorney General Letitia James has officially announced that she is running for governor.
"I'm running for Governor of New York because I have the experience, vision, and courage to take on the powerful on behalf of all New Yorkers," James said in a statement.
Earlier in the day, Reuters reported that the spokesman for the former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo accused James of using her office for political gain.
This came a day after a misdemeanour sex offence complaint was filed against Cuomo.
The former New York Governor stepped down in August following the five-month, non-criminal investigation by James' office - it concluded that 11 women had been sexually harassed by Cuomo. He denied intentionally mistreating women but said he was resigning to avoid "months of turmoil" that an investigation would have caused.

Since stepping down, Cuomo has been promoting opinion columns on social media that doubt James' investigation and suggest that it was politically motivated.
