The athlete has already won a gold medal, becoming the first woman to successfully perform a quadruple jump at the Olympics, and now is in first place after completing her short programme.

The results of figure skater Kamila Valieva at the Winter Olympics will be considered preliminary, International Olympic Committee (IOC) spokesman Mark Adams has said.

"There will be an asterisk against the results on Friday, because they will be preliminary, obviously, pending further investigation", Adams stated.

In the meantime, the International Skating Union (ISU) has noted that Valieva will participate in the gala exhibition if she is on the medal stand. After her short programme, Valieva is leading with 82.15 points, and on Thursday she will perform her free programme.
The Russian Olympic Committee's Kamila Valieva competes in the women's singles skating short programme during the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic Games.
The controversy started after Valieva's December doping test results came back on 8 February, showing traces of trimetazidine, (a banned heart medication). The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) allowed her to participate in the Olympic individual event in Beijing because her probes taken for the Olympic games proved clean.
However, if Valieva gets into the top three, the awards ceremony will be postponed, as the IOC said they wanted to give medals to the "right people" and wait for the end of the investigation into the skater. Earlier, the medal ceremony for the winners of the team competition was also postponed indefinitely.
