US Secret Service agents shot an "intruder" after a "confrontation" on Wednesday at the Washington, DC residence of the Peruvian ambassador to the US.
According to Anthony Guglielmi, the USSS chief of communications, the shooting occurred at a residence in the 3000 block of Garrison St NW. The incident occurred at around 8 a.m. local time.
The Secret Service agents were called by family members who were inside the ambassador's residence, the police said.
At first, according to the authorities, the person smashed out several windows on the backside of the residence. After countering the person, the officers first used their tasers, but they "did not take effect", prompting the officers to use "service weapons".
According to the authorities, the suspect is now deceased. Nobody inside the house was hurt.
The incident is currently being investigated, and the situation was described by the DC police as "fluid". The motivations of the "intruder" were not immediately clear.
