/ Russia launched its special military operation in Ukraine on 24 February, amid intensifying attacks on Donbass, perpetrated by Kiev's forces, which prompted the mass evacuation of civilians to Russia.
President Vladimir Putin stressed that the op was started to put an end to the genocide of the Donbass people, since thousands were killed and many more were injured or forces to leave their homes amid an eight-year-long war, waged by Ukraine against separatists in Donetsk and Lugansk. The president also noted that Moscow's goal is the demilitarisation and denazification of Ukraine.
