Last Chairman of Supreme Soviet of Russia Ruslan Khasbulatov Dies at Age of 80

Ruslan Khasbulatov, the last chairman of the Supreme Soviet of the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic (RSFSR), has died, his family told Sputnik.

On Tuesday the family of former Supreme Soviet Chairman Ruslan Khasbulatov confirmed to Sputnik that he had died. Prominent rights activist Alexander Cherkasov also wrote on social media that he had passed away, however his cause of death remains unknown.
Khasbulatov, an ethnic Chechen, died at his home in Moscow at the age of 80. He was a close ally of Boris Yeltsin before turning against him in 1993.
