Fire and Fury: Protesters Rage in Peru

On December 7, 2022, Peru's parliament impeached former President Pedro Castillo. Then-Prime Minister Dina Boluarte was appointed the country's new leader. The events have sparked a wave of protests across the country.

Since December, demonstrators across Peru have been denouncing the post-impeachment government and calling for an immediate presidential election and the dissolution of the country's parliament.
Thousands of people took to the streets of Peru's capital, Lima, on Thursday, clashing with police, which resorted to tear gas to disperse the crowds.
At least 50 people have died since the start of the protests on December 10, while around 1,200 have been injured.
