Russia is celebrating Easter on Sunday, as services are held in Orthodox churches, commemorating the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Paul the Apostle explains that in this event, "death is swallowed up in victory," while St. Peter adds that the "resurrection of Jesus from the dead" gives believers "a new birth."
While Orthodox Christians mark Easter according to the Julian calendar, the Roman Catholic Church and Protestants adhere to the Gregorian calendar, resulting in different dates for the holiday.
During the holiday, Russians enjoy a traditional family dinner featuring Easter eggs and bread. Believers also use the Paschal greeting (Easter acclamation), a verbal tradition initiating conversation with the words "Christ is risen!" – to which one responds "Indeed He is Risen!"
