Speaking about the results of his Sunday negotiations on the Jerusalem issue with Jordanian King Abdullah II in the capital city of Amman, US Vice President Mike Pence summarized that the parties "agreed to disagree", noting, however, that the US was "committed to restarting the peace process."
During the talks, King Abdullah reiterated Jordan's position by saying that East Jerusalem should be the capital of a future Palestinian state, while the US should "rebuild trust and confidence", shaken by Trump's controversial decision to recognize Jerusalem as the Israeli capital, which was announced on December 6.

As the top official explained, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict can only be solved by a two-state decision, warning Washington's side that the move has destabilized the region, triggered radicalism and could hamper efforts to reach a comprehensive settlement of the conflict.
The talks took place on January 19 after the US State Department outlined Washington's plans regarding moving the US embassy to Jerusalem, saying that the decision on an interim facility has not yet been taken, something that echoes Rex Tillerson's explanations in mid-December that the embassy was likely to be relocated no earlier than 2020, or possibly even later.
