Kremlin Confirms Putin's Address to Federal Assembly to Take Place on March 1

MOSCOW (Sputnik) - Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed on Wednesday that Russian President Vladimir Putin’s address to the Federal Assembly, the Russian parliament, would take place on March 1.

On Friday, a source told Sputnik that Putin may hold his Presidential Address to the Federal Assembly on March 1. The date was confirmed on Tuesday by Putin’s reelection campaign headquarters’ co-chair Aleksander Rumyantsev.

"Today the president is working in Moscow, in Novo-Ogaryovo [residence]. He continues to work on the address. Yesterday it has become known – and I can confirm this – that the address will indeed be held by the president on March 1," Peskov told reporters.

In January, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Putin’s address to the Federal Assembly will take place before the presidential election, which is set for March 18.

Chairwoman of the Russian Central Election Commission (CEC) said on February 1 that Presidential candidate and incumbent leader Putin's address, which happens to coincide with the country's election campaign period, will not violate any laws.

In accordance with the constitution, the Russian president makes an annual state-of-the-nation address to the Federal Assembly on the situation in the country, as well as domestic and foreign policy priorities. The presidential address is traditionally attended by members of both houses of the Federal Assembly, as well as senior government officials.
