Secret Service Investigate Suspicious Vehicle Near Federal Office in Washington

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) - US law enforcement officers reopened a road near the White House in downtown Washington, DC, after investigating a suspicious vehicle, the Secret Service said in a statement on Wednesday.

"Explosive Ordnance Detection personnel have cleared the suspicious vehicle. Vehicle road closures have been lifted," the Secret Service said in a Twitter message.

The Secret Service and local law enforcement officers were investigating the suspicious vehicle outside the New Executive Office Building, which is a facility just a few blocks from the White House that is used by the executive branch of the government.

Previously, they closed both Pennsylvania Avenue and Lafayette Park near the White House would to pedestrians.

"Secret Service Agents and Officers are responding to a suspicious vehicle near 17th street NW," the Secret Service said in a Twitter message.

The New Executive Office Building is used by the executive branch of government and is located just blocks from the White House.
