How Russians Around the World Cast Their Votes in the Presidential Election

The Russian presidential election took place on March 18, with Russian citizens voting all over the world. Polling stations set up in Russian embassies faced a much more significant turnout during this year’s election.

United States

The Russian ambassador to the US opened the voting station in Washington and was among the first to cast his vote.

​By 12.00 a.m. local time, 524 Russian citizens had visited the Washington Embassy in order to participate in the presidential election.

​Some 538 people voted at the Houston polling station by the same time, including those who had voted early.

United Kingdom

Despite the deteriorating relations between Russia and the UK, Russian voters living there gladly took the time to vote for their candidates.

European Union

Numerous polling stations were opened in different cities of other EU countries. The turnout there was also higher than usual.

​Over 3,500 participated in the elections at the embassy situated in Bonn.

​Russian citizens in Rome, Genoa and Naples also had their say in the elections.
