The Frankfurt Airport Terminal 1 has reopened after a partial evacuation initiated by an unauthorized person entered the security area A. According to the latest German Federal police report, it turned out that a French family of four had bypassed a security checkpoint without being checked. Police haven't clarified how that had happened.
Earlier German federal police spokeswoman Julia Thiel reported that the evacuation of Terminal 1 at the Frankfurt Airport had been initiated after an unauthorized person got past the security area. The news outlet Bild reported, citing a spokesperson, that the perpetrator had "disappeared."
"There were indications that at least one person entered the security area in area A without authorization, and so we have to clear the security area," a spokeswoman said.
Germany's FAZ also reported that the perpetrator had a child with him and that it had passed through the security checkpoint, while security personnel were distracted.
The airport's official Twitter account said that Concourses A and Z are being evacuated in the Terminal 1 "due to police action." The tweet also warned that flight disruptions are to be expected.
A similar incident happened at the Munich airport on July 28, when a person passed through the security area without being checked by officers. This resulted in an evacuation that affected 30,000 passengers and cancelled 300 flights.
