Three powerful earthquakes with magnitude ranging from 6.5 to 6.8 have been registered on Monday morning off Canada's western coast, the US Geological Survey (USGS) said.
The first 6.6-magnitude earthquake was recorded off the coast of Canada's western province of British Columbia at 05:39 GMT. The epicenter of the earthquake was situated 218 kilometers (135 miles) to the southwest of the municipality of Port Hardy at the depth of 11 kilometers (7 miles).
According to the USGS, the second and most powerful earthquake was registered off British Columbia less then an hour after the first one, at 06:16 GMT. The epicenter of the earthquake was located 197 kilometers (122 miles) southwest of Port Hardy at the depth of 10 kilometers (6 miles).
The third magnitude 6.5 tremor was recorded six minutes after the second quake, 223 kilometers (138 miles) southwest of Port Hardy at the depth of 11 kilometers (7 miles).
There was no instant tsunami warning.
The region is situated near the Cascadia subduction zone, a fault line that lies offshore, stretching from northern Vancouver Island to Northern California in the US.
