Japan's Osaka Wins Right to Host 2025 World Expo - BIE Vote

PARIS (Sputnik) - The Japanese city of Osaka was chosen on Friday as the host of the 2025 World Expo as a result of the vote by members of the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE).

The Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) member states elected Japan with 92 votes, while closest runner-up, Russia's Yekaterinburg, received a total of 61 votes.

Earlier this year, Osaka made its official bid for the Expo on April 24, 2017, with the theme "Designing Future Society for Our Lives".

The Japanese city already hosted EXPO in 1970.
