Elizabeth Warren, Democratic senator from Massachusetts, announced that she is entering the 2020 presidential race on 31 December. She notified her supporters that she has formed an exploratory committee thus kickstarting her fund raising campaign.

"I've spent my career getting to the bottom of why America's promise works for some families, but others, who work just as hard, slip through the cracks into disaster and what I've found is terrifying: these aren't cracks that families are falling into, they're traps", she stated.

In her video statement, Warren claims that the "billionaires and big corporations", willing to get more profits, are responsible for the decline of the US middle class' share of the total US income. She claimed that big businesses have achieved this by "enlisting politicians" to their cause and added that she went into politics after the 2008 financial crisis to stop that.

Warren, 69, who has never run for president before, is expected to be challenged by two more experienced candidates for the Democratic nomination — former US Vice President Joseph Biden and Senator Bernie Sanders.
