The famous Tappan Zee Bridge in New York was demolished by a controlled explosion on Wednesday. The old bridge between Westchester and Rockland Counties could not handle intense traffic because of its low load-carrying capacity.
While the eastern half of the Tappan Zee has been dismantled, the western part of the bridge is still standing, slated to be destroyed by the end of the year.
