Earlier in the day, Belgian daily newspaper La Derniere Heure reported that a man had been detained in the Belgian city of Liege earlier in the week, supposedly for committing a "terrorism-related" offence. According to the Belgian Federal Prosecutor's Office, the suspect was detained as a precautionary measure because the investigators had reason to believe that he could proceed to action.

"A total of three people [are being probed as part] of the case. One person was detained in Louvain, he was interrogated and released. The second one was detained in Bruges, following the interrogation charges were pressed against him. The third individual, who used to live in Liege, was also pressed with charges for plotting a terrorist crime," the prosecutor's office's representative said.

The representative added that Belgian authorities were yet to establish whether the three suspects had links to any  terroristorganization.
