Strong 5.3-Magnitude Earthquake Shakes Iran - EMSC

According to the Seismological Center of the Geophysics Institute of Tehran University, the earthquake struck Izeh in the southwestern Iranian province of Khuzestan.

The epicentre of the quake was located at 49.58 degrees longitude and 31.73 degrees latitude, according to the Mehr News Agency.

Three people were injured in a 5.2-magnitude earthquake, the IRNA news agency reported, citing a representative from Iran's rescue agency.

"As a result of this incident, three people were injured, among them a 17-year-old girl. All victims were evacuated from the affected areas and taken to hospital," the representative said.

Tremors from earthquake were also felt in northern parts of the UAE.

In 2017, the same area was hit by a deadly 7.3-magnitude earthquake, which killed hundreds and injured thousands more.
