More Than 2,000 Syrians Rally Against Presence of US Coalition - Russian MoD

MOSCOW (Sputnik) - More than 2,000 Syrian civilians took part on Monday in a rally opposing the presence of the US-led coalition in the country, the Russian Defense Ministry’s Center for Syrian Reconciliation said in a daily bulletin.

"Civilians carry on protests against the presence of the US-led international coalition in the Syrian Arab Republic. Such a rally took place in Deir ez-Zor involving over 2,000 civilians", the center said.

The US-led international coalition launched its counterterrorism campaign in Syria in 2014 and has been operating in the country ever since, without securing permission either from the United Nations Security Council or Damascus.

Despite the ceasefire regime established in Syria, a number of violations have occurred in Syrian provinces over the past 24 hours, the center noted.

“Over the past day, from the Idilb de-escalation zone terrorists have attacked Darh-Abu-Asad, Akch-Baer, Ikko and Nahshabba in Latakia province as well as Sukkari  in Aleppo province”, the bulletin read.

Since 2017, Russia has been one of the three guarantors of the ceasefire in Syria.

During the most intense periods of the civil war, the Russian armed forces provided military assistance to Damascus, while now, given the significant de-escalation of the conflict, they are also focused on regular humanitarian operations, post-war reconstruction and the return of refugees.
