A senior official with the Trump administration told reporters that the US thinks Iran should de-escalate and come to negotiations, according to Reuters.

The US leader has posted on Twitter recently, expressing his concern over the way the mainstream media covers the situation in Iran.

Earlier this week The Washington Post reported quoting the administration's official that Trump was frustrated with the hard-line policy towards Iran pushed by John Bolton and Mike Pompeo.

The relations between Washington and Tehran have grown more tense recently after the US reinforced its military presence in the Persian Gulf with the Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier and a bomber task force. It also approved the additional deployment of the Patriot missile defence system and Arlington amphibious warchip to the region.

Tehran has repeatedly said it is ready to retaliate in case of a military conflict.
