Three French 'Daesh Members' Sentenced to Death in Iraq - Reports

Earlier, UN Special Representative for Iraq Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert said that a new generation of Daesh fighters might emerge in Iraq if the issue of returning terrorists from Syria is not appropriately managed.

According to a official, a court in Iraq sentenced three French residents to death after they were found guilty of joining the Daesh* terrorist group.

Kevin Gonot, Leonard Lopez and Salim Machou were captured in Syria by a US-backed group fighting the terrorists. They are the first French Daesh members to receive death sentences in Iraq, where they were transported to for the court trial.

In 2014, vast swathes of Iraq were seized by Daesh. At the end of 2017, then-Iraqi Prime Minister Haider Abadi declared an end to the country's fight against the terror group as Iraqi troops re-established complete control over the country's border with Syria.
