Margarita Simonyan Taken to Hospital After Incident at Moscow Radio Station

Rossiya Segodnya editor-in-chief Margarita Simonyan was taken to a hospital after an incident with an opposition activist at the Moscow radio station "Echo of Moscow", RT reported Thursday.

According to RT, an opposition activist staged provocation with a camera at the premises of the radio station. As a result, Simonyan immediately became ill and was taken to a local hospital.

An opposition activist chased Simonyan with a camera, continuously asking what were regarded as inappropriate and provocative questions about Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin. In turn, Simonyan suggested to the activist that they take up their inquiry with the official press-service.

The opposition activist nonetheless continued to press Simonyan with questions. RT reported that Simonyan was hospitalized following the incident.

Late on Thursday, Alexei Venediktov, the editor-in-chief of Echo of Moscow, apologized to Simonyan for the incident. The radio station editor-in-chief added he was sorry for the failed expectations of listeners who wanted to listen to a show featuring Simonyan.
