The shooting was confirmed via Twitter by Toronto Police. Toronto Police Chief Mark Saunders said Monday evening said four people had been shot and suffered "non-life-threatening injuries." A total of two firearms have been recovered and three persons have been taken into custody.

According to Sports Net, the incident unfolded at roughly 4 p.m. local time as speeches were being given. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was in attendance and reportedly remained seated along with players and personnel from the basketball team.​

Footage shared on social media shows hundreds of individuals running to safety. Estimates indicate roughly 2 million fans were expected to attend the parade.

​​Toronto's City News reported that announcer Matt Devlin informed the crowds of the emergency, urging them to stay calm as police assessed the situation.

Locals had gathered in the area to celebrate the Raptors' NBA Championship win over the Golden State Warriors in Game Six of the series. The win marked the first NBA title for the Canadian team.
