Corbyn Slams Johnson's Prorogation of Parliament as 'Affront to Our Democracy'

The day before, the Supreme Court ruled that Prime Minister Boris Johnson had acted wrongly when he asked the Queen to prorogue Parliament and his order was "void and of no effect.”

Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn slammed on Wednesday Boris Johnson's decision to ask the Queen to suspend Parliament and called the move an "affront to our democracy".

The opposition leader further noted that he will be ready to trigger a vote of no confidence in the prime minister only when a no-deal Brexit is clearly averted.

"Quite simply our first priority is to prevent a no-deal exit from the EU. At that point, it would be appropriate to move a vote of no confidence to force the prime minister to resign," Mr Corbyn said.

Commenting on the current political situation in the UK, Mr Corbyn said the day before that the crisis can only be settled with a general election.

The same day, the Supreme Court ruled that Mr Johnson had acted wrongly when he asked the Queen to suspend Parliament and his order was "void and of no effect.”

Boris Johnson has repeatedly stated that he wouldn't allow another delay and vowed to lead the country from the EU by the 31 October deadline, with or without a deal.

In August, Mr Johnson announced the prorogation of the Parliament in order to keep MPs from adopting anti-Brexit legislation and said that the Conservatives would deselect Tory MPs who do not follow the party line.
