Bollywood actor Actor Ayushman Khurrana is to be the torchbearer for UNICEF and the Indian government to raise awareness of and fight against the sexual abuse of children.
The Ministry of Women and Child Development has joined hands with Ayushmann for its key initiative, the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO), which aims to protect children and provide legal support to fight child abuse.
The actor, who shot to fame with his debut film Vicky Donner, also shot a video on the topic, urging people to be more vigilant about sexual abuse happening to children around them and raise their voices against such offences by reporting them to the authorities.
Ayushmann is reportedly elated about his new role, as he will be able to contribute to the cause, by aiding the government’s initiative to eradicate the heinous crime of child abuse.
Ayushmann also said that being a socially-conscious citizen, he is keen on spreading the word about matters that need urgent attention. This is a significant step taken by the ministry to create awareness of the protection and legal support that the act offers against child sexual abuse.
On the work front, the “Article 15” actor, will be seen in his films Bala and Gulabo Sitabo. The actor is currently busy shooting for Shubh Mangal Zyaada Saavdhan, a sequel to his movie on the topic of erectile dysfunction.
